Welcome to Worthing Chess Club.

We are a friendly chess club with a growing membership, we welcome players of all ages and strengths.

Our membership ranges from the enthusiastic novice up to county strength players with grades ranging from 40 to 200. We also have a small, but growing, number of juniors.

From September to the end of May we hold club nights every Monday from 7:20pm for friendly games, club competitions and league matches.

Parking may be tight in Pavilion Road but space is freely available in Bulkington Avenue, just 200m to the North.

Worthing field 4 teams in the Mid Sussex League - two in Division 1; and one in each of Divisions 2 and 3.

We also run several internal club tournaments which are open to all paid-up members.

Monday 10th September Annual Chair vs Secretary match

 

2017-18 was a great season for Worthing Chess Club:

  • 1st team – 2nd place

  • 2nd team – comfortable mid-table in division 1 and only team to beat the winners, Hastings 1

  • 3rd team – div.3 champions and promoted to div 2

  • 4th team – div.4 champions with a maximum 7/7 and promoted to div 3

Congratulations and thanks to all players and the captains on what must be our most successful season ever.
Special mention for incredible individual performances must go to:

  • The evergreen Keith Homeyard who won the Mid Sussex League Div 3 and overall best performances tankards

  • Rising star Max Bennett who won the Mid Sussex League Div 4 best performance tankard

Drivers and captains permitting, we are hoping for a 5th team next season.
