A big thanks to all the team members – Morgan Blake, Terry Edmondson, Keith Homeyard, Chris Jones, Matt Payne and Alex Therrien.

Alex went through the season unbeaten which is a terrific achievement on board 1 in the 1st Division.  Chris also remained unbeaten throughout the season as did Morgan who stepped in at short notice for a couple of games.  Sterling efforts from Terry, Keith and Matt ensured we had a really successful season with some big wins.

It was great to see Keith come out of a 30 year retirement and you’d hardly know he’d been away – some great positional chess and astounding opening knowledge combined to shake off any rust.  Terry did brilliantly as ever just to get to the matches considering he commutes into London, and his brilliant win against Horsham 1 away meant we won that match to pip them for 3rd place.  Matt got stronger and stronger as the season progressed and was dishing out punishment to several very highly rated players.

Naturally the season was not without incident:

My favourite game was saved to the end – away at Woodpushers with Harveys from the barrel (sorry you missed that one Keith!) and the car left overnight in Hove - thanks for the lift Chris.

Roll-on 2012/3 – I think.

Dave Graham.
